About Course

The Gastroenterology Fellowship affiliated with New York Medical College is an ACGME-accredited postgraduate subspecialty training program designed to prepare physicians for advanced careers in gastroenterology, hepatology, digestive diseases, and academic medicine. The fellowship provides rigorous clinical education through multiple NYMC-affiliated teaching hospitals and tertiary care centers that serve culturally diverse and medically complex patient populations.
The fellowship curriculum combines inpatient consultation services, outpatient continuity clinics, endoscopy training, hepatology exposure, gastrointestinal pathology conferences, and multidisciplinary patient management. Fellows gain extensive experience in upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy, motility studies, inflammatory bowel disease management, liver disease care, pancreaticobiliary disorders, gastrointestinal bleeding, and advanced therapeutic procedures.
NYMC’s Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatobiliary Diseases is supported by advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies including endoscopic ultrasound, SpyGlass cholangioscopy, radiofrequency ablation, esophageal motility testing, transplant hepatology services, and minimally invasive endoscopic interventions. Fellows are exposed to both routine and highly specialized gastrointestinal procedures across affiliated hospitals.
The academic curriculum includes grand rounds, journal clubs, guideline review sessions, pathology conferences, board preparation activities, morbidity and mortality discussions, and structured research mentorship. Fellows are encouraged to participate in clinical research projects, quality improvement initiatives, national gastroenterology conferences, and scholarly publications throughout training.
Faculty mentorship plays a significant role in fellow development, with training supervised by experienced gastroenterologists, hepatologists, transplant specialists, and interventional endoscopists. The program emphasizes evidence-based medicine, procedural competency, patient-centered care, and leadership development within academic and community healthcare systems.
Graduates of the fellowship are prepared for American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certification in Gastroenterology and future careers in advanced endoscopy, transplant hepatology, academic medicine, private gastroenterology practice, hospital medicine, and clinical research.
