The Forensic Pathology Fellowship is a 12-month advanced training program designed to prepare physicians for careers in forensic pathology. Primary training is provided at the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner, with additional rotations through forensic laboratory services covering DNA/serology, firearms and ballistics, trace evidence, crime-scene investigation, latent prints and drug analysis. Fellows are expected to perform approximately 200–250 autopsies and develop expertise in autopsy procedures, forensic photography, evidence collection, postmortem studies and identification of human remains. The program also provides experience in death certification, communication with families and law enforcement, death reviews, emergency preparedness, expert testimony, and teaching medical students and residents.
