Fellowship in Forensic Pathology

The Forensic Pathology Fellowship is a 12-month advanced training program designed to prepare physicians for careers in forensic pathology. Primary training is provided at the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner, with additional rotations through forensic laboratory services covering DNA/serology, firearms and ballistics, trace evidence, crime-scene investigation, latent prints and drug analysis. Fellows are expected to perform approximately 200–250 autopsies and develop expertise in autopsy procedures, forensic photography, evidence collection, postmortem studies and identification of human remains. The program also provides experience in death certification, communication with families and law enforcement, death reviews, emergency preparedness, expert testimony, and teaching medical students and residents.

1. Applicants must apply through ERAS and submit the required supporting documents
2. The program participates in the NRMP Match Program
3. Applicants must also submit a separate application to the City and County of Denver
4. Eligible applicants are invited for an interview
5. Final appointment is contingent upon verification of credentials and completion of the required background check
6. The program is currently accepting applications for the 2028–2029 fellowship
