The Forensic Pathology Fellowship affiliated with NYU Grossman School of Medicine and the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) is among the most respected forensic pathology training programs in the United States. The fellowship provides comprehensive training in medicolegal death investigation through exposure to one of the largest and busiest medical examiner systems in the world. Fellows perform forensic autopsies under the supervision of board-certified forensic pathologists and gain extensive experience in the investigation of homicides, suicides, accidental deaths, sudden natural deaths, and mass fatality incidents. Training includes death scene investigation, forensic anthropology, forensic toxicology, forensic neuropathology, injury interpretation, identification procedures, and courtroom testimony. Fellows work closely with law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, public health authorities, and forensic scientists while participating in multidisciplinary case reviews. The program emphasizes evidence-based death investigation, public health surveillance, and forensic research. Fellows also receive academic appointments through the Department of Forensic Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, providing access to educational resources, teaching opportunities, and scholarly activities. Graduates are exceptionally well prepared for careers as Medical Examiners, forensic pathologists, academic faculty members, and medicolegal consultants in governmental and private institutions. Additionally, qualified fellows may pursue advanced subspecialty training in forensic neuropathology and cardiovascular pathology through affiliated programs.
