The Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic Surgery Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a comprehensive one-year advanced training program offered through the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The fellowship provides extensive clinical and operative experience in the diagnosis and management of a broad spectrum of foot and ankle disorders at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, affiliated outpatient surgical centers, and Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. Fellows receive hands-on training in the treatment of sports-related injuries, fractures, tendon disorders, ligament instability, arthritis, adult-acquired flatfoot deformity, cavus foot, diabetic foot conditions, and complex reconstructive procedures. Surgical training includes ankle arthroscopy, minimally invasive foot surgery, total ankle arthroplasty, deformity correction, osteotomies, tendon reconstruction, cartilage restoration, and advanced trauma management. The fellowship emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration with specialists in sports medicine, rehabilitation, podiatry, vascular surgery, endocrinology, and physical therapy to optimize patient outcomes. Fellows also participate in resident education, research, journal clubs, multidisciplinary conferences, and quality improvement initiatives, with opportunities to present scientific work at national meetings. Graduates are well prepared for careers in academic orthopaedic surgery, tertiary referral centers, and specialized foot and ankle practices.
