Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine (FICM)

The Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at the University of Minnesota provides advanced training in the care of critically ill patients across medical, cardiac, cardiothoracic, neurocritical, and surgical intensive care units. Fellows develop expertise in critical care procedures, resuscitation, mechanical ventilation, ECMO, mechanical circulatory support, point-of-care ultrasound, airway management, and multidisciplinary patient care, along with opportunities for simulation, research, teaching, and quality improvement. The program offers General Critical Care and Cardiac Critical Care training pathways.

1. Apply through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service).
2. Register for the NRMP Fellowship Medicine and Pediatric Specialties Match.
3. Submit the following through ERAS:

5. Current CV
6. Personal statement
7. 3 letters of recommendation
8. Medical school transcripts
9. USMLE and/or COMLEX transcript
10. ECFMG certificate, if applicable
11. Documentation of successful completion of the required 2- or 3-year Internal Medicine subspecialty fellowship.
4. If the current fellowship is still in progress, submit a letter of good standing from the Program Director confirming the anticipated graduation date.
5. The program participates in program signaling; applicants who signal the program are preferentially reviewed, although non-signaling applicants are also considered.
6. Selected applicants are invited for virtual interviews.
7. Applicants register for the NRMP Match and submit their Rank Order List.
8. Final selection is completed through the NRMP Match.
