The Fellowship in Complex and Reconstructive Spine Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a one-year, CAST-accredited advanced fellowship designed to train future leaders in complex spinal surgery. Based at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, one of the leading academic medical centers in the United States, the fellowship provides comprehensive exposure to the evaluation and management of complex spinal disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Fellows gain expertise in treating spinal deformities, scoliosis, spinal tumors, traumatic injuries, congenital conditions, and degenerative spine diseases using both traditional open and minimally invasive surgical techniques. The program incorporates advanced technologies such as computer-assisted navigation, robotic-assisted surgery, image-guided procedures, and simulation-based training through Northwestern's Center for Advanced Surgical Education. Fellows work closely with faculty from both neurosurgery and orthopaedic spine surgery, offering a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. In addition to high-volume operative experience, fellows actively participate in clinical, translational, and basic science research and are expected to present scholarly work at national meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals. Upon completion, graduates are well prepared for academic spine surgery practices and leadership roles in complex spinal reconstruction.
