Fellowship in Colorectal Surgery

• Hold an MD/DO or an equivalent medical degree (MBBS or equivalent for international graduates).
• Successfully complete five or more years of General Surgery training in an ACGME-accredited General Surgery Residency Program.
• Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

• Demonstrate strong academic performance, research experience, and satisfactory interview performance.

The Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (UICOM), Chicago is an ACGME-accredited one-year fellowship that provides comprehensive training in the diagnosis and medical and surgical management of benign and malignant diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus. Fellows rotate through UI Health, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, and John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, gaining broad exposure to diverse patient populations and healthcare settings. The program emphasizes advanced laparoscopic and minimally invasive colorectal surgery, endoscopy, anorectal procedures, multidisciplinary cancer care, research, and structured didactic education, preparing fellows for certification by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ABCRS) and careers in academic or clinical practice.
