Fellowship in Clinical Chemistry

1. For the physician pathway, completion of or current enrollment in an approved residency in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology or Clinical Pathology only.
2. Eligibility to sit for the relevant American Board of Pathology certification examinations.
3. For the doctoral-level pathway, a Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Medicine degree that meets the Commission on Accreditation in Clinical Chemistry requirements.
4. Submission of a curriculum vitae and a statement explaining interest in clinical chemistry.
5. Three letters of recommendation, including at least one from the chair or residency director of the applicant’s previous training program.
6. Interest in laboratory medicine, diagnostic testing, clinical laboratory leadership, teaching, and research.

The Clinical Chemistry Fellowship at Yale School of Medicine provides specialized training in laboratory diagnostics, clinical service, teaching, and research. The program is based at Yale New Haven Hospital and the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory within Yale’s Department of Laboratory Medicine. Fellows gain experience in advanced laboratory testing, laboratory management, interpretation of diagnostic results, and clinical consultation. Research opportunities include biomarker development, mass spectrometry, clinical toxicology, and translational research. The flexible curriculum supports career development toward leadership in clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine.

1. Applicants should first identify whether they are applying to the one-year physician pathway or the two-year doctoral-level clinical chemistry pathway.
2. For the physician pathway, applicants must complete or be completing an eligible pathology residency and meet the relevant board-examination eligibility requirements.
3. Prepare a curriculum vitae, a statement of interest in clinical chemistry, and three letters of recommendation. The standardized College of American Pathologists fellowship application may be used for the physician pathway, provided all information requested by Yale is included.
4. Send the application materials to labmed.fellowships@yale.edu and include the intended training year and “Chemistry Fellowship” in the email subject line.
5. The selection committee reviews applications, and shortlisted applicants may be invited for an interview. Applicants to the doctoral-level pathway should follow the separate Commission on Accreditation in Clinical Chemistry application requirements.
