Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

The Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Heersink School of Medicine is a two-year advanced training program focused on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric and behavioral disorders in children and adolescents. Fellows receive clinical experience in inpatient and outpatient settings, consultation-liaison and emergency psychiatry, autism services, pediatric neurology, partial hospitalization, school consultations, and transitional-age youth care. Training includes diagnostic interviewing, psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, behavioral and family therapies, developmental assessment, and multidisciplinary care. Fellows also participate in teaching, research, quality improvement, conferences, and elective experiences to develop advanced clinical and academic skills in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

1. Submit the fellowship application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) during the open application season.
2. Provide the required academic and professional information and examination documentation through the application.
3. The program reviews submitted applications and selects candidates for interviews.
4. Applicants selected for an interview are notified through ERAS or email.
5. Complete the virtual interview with the program director and faculty members.
6. Participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), as required by the fellowship.
7. Selected applicants complete UAB Graduate Medical Education and Alabama medical licensure requirements before beginning fellowship training.
