Fellowship in Cardiology

The General Cardiology Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a comprehensive three-year training program that prepares fellows for advanced clinical practice, academic cardiology, or further subspecialty training. Fellows receive extensive clinical experience in cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, cardiac Computed Tomography (CT), cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), electrocardiography, ambulatory monitoring, critical care cardiology, and cardiovascular consultations. Training also includes exposure to electrophysiology, advanced heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, adult congenital heart disease, cardio-oncology, cardiogenomics, valve disease, and pulmonary embolism. Fellows participate in structured conferences, outpatient clinics, research, mentorship, and scholarly activities, with opportunities for specialized electives and advanced training during the later years of the fellowship.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), program number 1007141F0.
2. Submit a current Curriculum Vitae (CV), updated within the previous three months.
3. Submit medical school transcripts and diploma if requested.
4. Submit the Medical School Dean's Letter.
5. Submit three Letters of Recommendation, including letters from former program directors.
6. Submit a certificate or verification of previous residency training.
7. Provide documentation demonstrating eligibility for an Alabama Medical License and Alabama Controlled Substance Certificate, with all required examination steps completed at the time of application.
8. Provide eligibility for Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
9. International Medical Graduates must submit a valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Certificate.
10. No additional documents outside the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) submission are accepted.
11. Applications are submitted from July through September and reviewed in August.
12. Interview invitations are released in September, with interviews beginning in October.
13. The program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), with the fellowship beginning on July 1.
