Fellowship in Breast & Gynecological Pathology

The Gynecologic & Breast Pathology Fellowship at the University of Minnesota is designed to provide advanced training in the diagnosis of gynecologic and breast specimens, integrating histopathology with cytopathology, cytogenetic, and molecular diagnostic methods. Fellows gain experience in a high-volume tertiary-care setting, with more than 3,700 gynecologic, 1,000 breast, and 500 consultation cases annually. The curriculum includes 4 months of Gynecologic Pathology, 4 months of Breast Pathology, 1 month of research, and 3 months of electives, with opportunities in perinatal pathology, cytopathology, molecular pathology, and cytogenetics. Fellows also participate in translational research, teaching, precision medicine, digital pathology, and quality management.

1. Complete the University of Minnesota Fellowship Application Form.
2. Submit an updated CV.
3. Submit a letter of intent describing relevant experience, interests, and career goals.
4. Submit USMLE/COMLEX scores and a copy of the medical diploma.
5. Submit three letters of recommendation.
6. IMGs must additionally provide their valid ECFMG certificate and meet J-1 visa requirements, if applicable.
7. The program reviews completed applications and invites selected candidates for interviews.
8. Selection considers medical knowledge, pathology preparation, communication skills, recommendations, USMLE performance, motivation, research interest, and overall suitability for the program.
9. The Gynecologic & Breast Pathology Fellowship will participate in the NRMP Fellowship Match beginning with July 2028 positions.
