Overview

The Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine is an ACGME-approved, two-year program for Emergency Medicine graduates that provides comprehensive and immersive training in the care of critically ill patients across multiple ICU settings. Fellows receive hands-on experience in Medical, Surgical-Trauma, Cardiothoracic, Neurology/Neurosurgery, and Burn ICUs, along with dedicated training in critical care point-of-care ultrasound and echocardiography. The program also includes clinical research, electives, and focused subspecialty training, preparing fellows for multidisciplinary critical care practice.

Eligibility

  1. Applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited residency in Anesthesiology or Emergency Medicine, as applicable to the fellowship pathway
  2. Applicants must have successfully completed USMLE Step 3, COMLEX Level 3, or the Canadian LMCC examination before starting the fellowship
  3. Applicants must hold a Colorado medical license granted by the Colorado Board of Medical Examiners
  4. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees, or possess appropriate documentation permitting legal training at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
  5. International Medical Graduates must meet the applicable ECFMG certification requirements
  6. Selection considers academic credentials, clinical ability, communication skills, motivation, integrity, and other personal qualities

Admission Process:

  1. The fellowship uses the San Francisco Match (SF Match) and its Common Application Service
  2. Applicants submit the completed Common Application Service application within the program's specified application period
  3. For the July 2027 intake, applications opened on November 10, 2025, with completed applications due by March 13, 2026
  4. Interviews were conducted from January to April 2026
  5. The rank list was submitted in May 2026, with match results released in June 2026
  6. The University of Colorado does not require additional application information beyond the Common Application Service
