Fellowship in Advanced Immunocompromised Host

• Must hold an MD / DO or equivalent medical degree
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited Infectious Diseases Fellowship (or equivalent advanced training)
• Must be board eligible or board certified in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine
• Eligible for medical licensure in North Carolina (USA)
• Demonstrated interest or experience in:
• Transplant infectious diseases
• Oncology-related infections
• Immunocompromised patient care
• Must meet all UNC Graduate Medical Education (GME) requirements for appointment

The Advanced Immunocompromised Host Fellowship at UNC School of Medicine (UNCSOM), Chapel Hill is a specialized one-year advanced training program designed for physicians who want focused expertise in managing infections in high-risk immunocompromised patients, including those undergoing organ transplantation, stem cell transplantation, cancer treatment, or living with severe immunodeficiency conditions. The fellowship provides intensive clinical exposure through dedicated inpatient consult services and outpatient clinics, where fellows manage complex and opportunistic infections. It emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration with transplant, oncology, and critical care teams, along with advanced training in antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention, and hospital epidemiology. In addition to clinical care, fellows participate in research, quality improvement initiatives, and specialized training tracks, preparing them for leadership roles in transplant infectious diseases, academic medicine, and advanced clinical practice.
