Fellowship in Advanced Esophageal

• Completion of a 3-year accredited Gastroenterology Fellowship (mandatory)
• Must be Board Eligible or Board Certified in Gastroenterology
• Completed prior training in Internal Medicine
• Demonstrated interest in esophageal diseases, motility disorders, and advanced GI care
• Research experience in Gastroenterology or related field is preferred
• Must meet institutional requirements for medical licensure (USA)

The Advanced Esophageal Fellowship at UNC School of Medicine is a highly specialized advanced training program within the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, focused on the diagnosis and management of complex esophageal and swallowing disorders. The fellowship provides intensive exposure to conditions such as esophageal motility disorders, GERD, Barrett’s esophagus, eosinophilic esophagitis, and dysphagia, along with training in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Fellows work closely with the UNC Center for Esophageal Diseases & Swallowing, gaining multidisciplinary experience alongside gastroenterologists, surgeons, and other specialists. The program emphasizes hands-on clinical training, procedural skills, research, and academic development, preparing physicians for leadership roles in esophageal disease management and neurogastroenterology.
