Overview

The Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship is a 1-year, ACGME-accredited clinical fellowship that provides advanced training in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric conditions. Fellows receive comprehensive clinical experience across inpatient addiction services, outpatient addiction clinics, consultation-liaison psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, Veterans Affairs (VA) settings, community programs, and private practice. The program emphasizes evidence-based addiction treatment, psychotherapy, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), interdisciplinary care, teaching, research, and leadership development, preparing graduates for board certification and independent practice in Addiction Psychiatry.

Eligibility

  • Must have completed or be completing an ACGME-accredited Psychiatry Residency Program.
  • Must possess an MD, DO, MBBS, or equivalent medical degree.
  • International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must have a valid ECFMG certification.
  • Must meet the University of Illinois Graduate Medical Education (GME) requirements.
  • Must apply through ERAS and participate in the NRMP Fellowship Match.

Admission Process:

  1. Register with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
  2. Submit an application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
  3. Upload the required documents, including:
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • Three Letters of Recommendation
  • Medical School Transcript
  • USMLE score reports
  • ECFMG Certificate (for IMGs)
  1. Applications are reviewed by the fellowship selection committee.
