The Addiction Medicine Fellowship at the University of Minnesota Medical School is a 1-year ACGME-accredited fellowship focused on the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and ongoing management of substance use and addictive disorders. Fellows receive multidisciplinary training in inpatient detoxification, addiction consultation, adolescent substance use, pharmacotherapy, withdrawal management, outpatient addiction treatment, psychotherapy, and continuity care. Training is provided across the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Hennepin Healthcare, and Minneapolis VA Medical Center, with additional exposure to opioid treatment, rural addiction care, pain management, and interdisciplinary addiction services. The program also includes weekly didactics and monthly grand rounds and prepares physicians for careers in hospitals, addiction treatment programs, academic medicine, and primary care.
