The Acute Care Surgery Fellowship at ZSFG/UCSF is a 12-month, AAST-approved, non-ACGME fellowship designed to prepare board-eligible or certified general surgeons with Surgical Critical Care training for leadership roles in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. The fellowship combines advanced clinical training with teaching, research, quality improvement, injury prevention, and trauma systems development. Fellows manage complex trauma and emergency general surgery patients at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, with additional exposure to vascular and cardiac surgery, organ procurement, critical care echocardiography, trauma anesthesia, pediatric trauma, neurosurgery, and orthopedics. The program also includes structured weekly and monthly educational conferences, research activities, performance improvement, and multidisciplinary peer review.
