The Renal Transplant Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a one-year postdoctoral fellowship providing advanced clinical training in kidney and pancreas transplantation. Fellows gain comprehensive experience in inpatient transplant nephrology, outpatient transplant clinics, evaluation of transplant recipients and donors, renal allograft biopsies, immunosuppression, transplant complications, opportunistic infections, and long-term graft management. Training also includes electives in apheresis, transplant infectious diseases, renal pathology, liver transplantation, and pediatric transplant nephrology, along with a mandatory immune-histocompatibility laboratory rotation. Fellows participate in multidisciplinary transplant conferences and complete a clinical or basic science research project, with opportunities for presentations and publications.
