Fellowship Course in Epilepsy

• MD, DO, or equivalent international medical degree.
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited Adult Neurology Residency Program.
• Board Eligible or Board Certified in Neurology.
• Eligible for an unrestricted Illinois medical license.

The Epilepsy Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship offered through the Department of Neurology and the Northwestern Medicine Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. The program is designed to provide advanced clinical training in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and complex seizure disorders within a nationally recognized academic medical center. Fellows gain extensive experience in inpatient and outpatient epilepsy care, continuous video-EEG monitoring, ambulatory EEG, intracranial EEG interpretation, and presurgical evaluation for epilepsy surgery. Training includes participation in multidisciplinary epilepsy surgery conferences, where fellows collaborate with epileptologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neuropsychologists, and neuropathologists to develop individualized treatment plans. Fellows receive hands-on exposure to advanced therapeutic interventions, including vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), responsive neurostimulation (RNS), and deep brain stimulation (DBS) for epilepsy management. The curriculum also emphasizes resident and medical student education, clinical research, quality improvement projects, and scholarly activities. Upon successful completion, graduates are well prepared for careers in academic epilepsy centers, tertiary referral hospitals, and advanced clinical practice in epileptology.
