Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology (DOTT)

1. Passed 10+2 (Higher Secondary) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology individually from a recognized board.
2. Minimum age: 17 years by the end of the calendar year.
3. Eligible candidates must appear and qualify in the SMFWB entrance examination (SMFWBEE) and be on the merit list for counselling.

The Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology (DOTT) at Jalpaiguri Government Medical College and Hospital is a paramedical diploma designed to develop competent operation theatre technologists who can support surgical teams in hospitals and healthcare facilities. As an SMFWB-affiliated course, it follows curriculum and assessment structures set by the State Medical Faculty of West Bengal. Across the two academic years and 6-month practical training, students learn human anatomy and physiology, surgical principles, sterilization and disinfection techniques, operation theatre procedures, equipment handling, emergency protocols, peri-operative patient care, and infection control. The program includes theoretical classes, hands-on practical training, and supervised clinical exposure in the affiliated hospital’s operation theatres. Upon successful completion, graduates are prepared for roles as Operation Theatre Technicians or Surgical Assistants in government or private hospitals, surgery centers, and clinics.

1. Apply for SMFWB Entrance: Register and appear for the State Medical Faculty of West Bengal Entrance Examination (SMFWBEE) for paramedical courses including DOTT.
2. Entrance Exam: Sit for the SMFWBEE exam covering Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
3. Merit List & Counselling: Based on entrance performance, the SMFWB publishes a merit list. Eligible candidates are called for counselling.
4. Seat Allotment: During counselling, fill choices and confirm seat allotment for DOTT at Jalpaiguri Government Medical College & Hospital.
5. Document Verification: Present original educational certificates, ID, and other required documents for verification.
6. Admission Confirmation: Pay the requisite admission fee and complete enrollment formalities.
7. Commencement: Begin classes and practical training as per the academic calendar.
