Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program

The UAB Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program provides comprehensive four-year training across the full spectrum of diagnostic imaging. Residents receive progressive clinical responsibility and rotate through abdominal imaging, musculoskeletal imaging, ultrasound, thoracic imaging, neuroradiology, interventional radiology, pediatric radiology, nuclear medicine, breast imaging, and the Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The program combines supervised hands-on clinical training with daily didactic and case-based conferences, multidisciplinary conferences, and dedicated radiologic physics education. Residents also have elective opportunities to develop subspecialty interests, pursue research, and participate in specialized pathways such as clinician education, research, informatics, and global radiology.

1. Complete medical school and the required one-year preliminary clinical training.
2. Prepare the required documents, including curriculum vitae, personal statement, USMLE Step scores, Letters of Recommendation, Dean's Letter/Medical Student Performance Evaluation, and medical school transcript.
3. Submit the application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
4. The Resident Selection and Review Committee reviews completed applications.
5. Selected candidates are invited for an interview through ERAS.
6. Participate in the UAB interview process.
7. Applicants participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
8. Successful candidates begin the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program at the Post-Graduate Year 2 (PGY-2) level. UAB currently plans to fill nine Diagnostic Radiology positions.
