Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship

1. Completed an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residency program
2. Board eligible or board certified by the American Board of Surgery
3. Eligible for clinical fellowship training in the U.S.
4. Demonstrated interest in surgical oncology
5. Application submitted through ERAS and participation in the CGSO match process

The Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center is a two-year advanced clinical training program designed to prepare surgeons for board-certified practice in surgical oncology. Fellows rotate through a wide array of oncologic subspecialties, including hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, soft tissue and sarcoma surgery, melanoma and colorectal oncology, breast and endocrine oncology, thoracic oncology, urologic oncology, and reconstructive procedures. Clinical exposure spans open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery, as well as cutting-edge procedures such as microwave and radiofrequency ablations, hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), and irreversible electroporation (NanoKnife). The curriculum integrates multidisciplinary collaboration with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, and gynecologic oncology. Fellows participate in structured didactics including weekly conferences, tumor boards, journal clubs, morbidity and mortality reviews, and multidisciplinary case discussions. The fellowship strongly emphasizes clinical excellence, surgical skill development, research productivity, and preparation for independent practice in complex cancer care. Fellows are encouraged to present scholarly work at regional and national meetings and engage in translational research opportunities.
