Combined Residency in Anesthesiology and Pediatrics

1. Applicants must have passing United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 and Step 2 scores; there is no minimum score cutoff.
2. Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) applicants may submit either United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) scores.
3. Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine applicants must provide evidence of a pediatric inpatient rotation.
4. Applicants should demonstrate genuine interest in both Pediatrics and Anesthesiology.
5. Applicants must provide at least one clinical letter from Pediatrics faculty and one clinical letter from Anesthesiology faculty.
6. International Medical Graduates must have clinical experience in the United States and at least two letters from United States faculty with whom they worked in a clinical setting.
7. If currently enrolled in another residency, a letter from the current program director is required.

Stanford Medicine Health Care (SHC) is an academic health care system affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine, providing advanced clinical care, medical education, and research. It offers training across a broad range of medical specialties through its teaching hospitals and clinical facilities. The Combined Residency in Pediatrics and Anesthesiology is a five-year integrated residency designed to train physicians in both Pediatrics and Anesthesiology and prepare them for board certification in both specialties. The program includes structured rotations in Pediatrics and Anesthesiology, with training at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, Stanford Hospital, and affiliated clinical sites. The final three years provide alternating clinical experiences in both specialties, allowing residents to develop comprehensive skills in pediatric and perioperative care.

1. Submit the complete application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Apply specifically to the Combined Program in Pediatrics and Anesthesiology through Electronic Residency Application Service.
3. Submit the required documents, including the completed application, Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE), letters of recommendation, personal statement, medical school transcript, United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) score transcript, and National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) number.
4. Submit 3–4 letters of recommendation, including at least two clinical letters; the program requires one Pediatrics clinical letter and one Anesthesiology clinical letter.
5. The application is reviewed by both the Pediatrics and Anesthesiology programs.
6. Selected applicants interview with both programs over two days.
7. Final selection and matching are conducted through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
