Combined Internal Medicine-Dermatology Residency

The Combined Medicine-Dermatology Residency Program at the University of Minnesota Medical School is a 60-month (5-year) integrated residency designed to train physicians in both Internal Medicine and Dermatology. The program combines inpatient and outpatient Internal Medicine training with comprehensive Dermatology training, including medical and procedural dermatology. Residents also receive exposure to intensive care, emergency and urgent care, subspecialty clinics, consultation services, electives, and protected scholarly/research time. The curriculum emphasizes areas where the two specialties overlap, such as hospital consultation, cutaneous neoplasia, rheumatology, infectious disease, endocrinology, geriatrics, systemic disease, and general medicine. Graduates are eligible to take both the American Board of Internal Medicine and American Board of Dermatology certification examinations.

1. Apply through the ERAS residency application system.
2. Submit the required application materials, including the medical school documents and USMLE Step 1 information.
3. Submit at least 3 letters of recommendation plus the Dean’s Letter, including letters from Dermatology and Internal Medicine.
4. IMG applicants must provide ECFMG certification.
5. Register for the NRMP and participate in the Medicine-Dermatology residency Match.
6. The program reviews applications and invites selected candidates for interviews.
7. Final placement is completed through the NRMP Match.
