The Combined Internal Medicine–Dermatology Residency Program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a highly specialized dual-certification training pathway designed for physicians seeking expertise at the intersection of Internal Medicine and Dermatology. The program became ACGME-accredited in 2025 and offers one residency position annually, making it one of the most selective combined residency programs in the United States. Residents receive balanced training through the Department of Medicine and Department of Dermatology, gaining extensive exposure to complex medical dermatology and systemic diseases with dermatologic manifestations. Clinical training occurs primarily at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, with additional experiences at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center and affiliated outpatient clinics. The curriculum emphasizes experiential learning, multidisciplinary collaboration, patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and academic development. Residents participate in medicine grand rounds, dermatology conferences, specialty clinics, inpatient consultations, continuity clinics, and scholarly research projects. Faculty mentorship is a major strength of the program, helping residents develop careers in academic medicine, clinical practice, subspecialty fellowships, physician-scientist pathways, and healthcare leadership.
