Overview
- The Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Medicine programme at the University of Sydney is designed for school-leavers who wish to pursue a medical career while also gaining a strong grounding in the humanities and social sciences. The BA component (144 credit points) allows students to major and minor in Arts or in other disciplines drawn from the shared pool of subject areas.
- At the same time, foundational units for the Medicine part (e.g., biology, physiology, anatomy) are integrated early on. After the BA component is completed, students progress into the Doctor of Medicine phase (92 credit points), which leads to a professional medical qualification.
- The programme emphasises interdisciplinary thinking, ethical and cultural awareness, communication skills, as well as clinical competence. Graduates are prepared for registration as medical practitioners and have the advantage of a wider arts-based education, which can enhance leadership, policy, global health or research roles beyond clinical practice.
