Overview

The Artificial Intelligence Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is the first dedicated fellowship of its kind designed to train physician leaders at the intersection of cardiovascular medicine and artificial intelligence. The program is jointly administered by the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute and the McCormick School of Engineering, providing an interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates medicine, computer science, and engineering. Fellows begin with an intensive immersion in computer programming, statistics, and computational methods before progressing to advanced coursework in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, and human-computer interaction. Throughout the fellowship, participants conduct mentored research alongside internationally recognized faculty, applying AI to cardiovascular imaging, electrocardiography, natural language processing, predictive analytics, and clinical decision support systems. Fellows contribute to innovative projects involving automated ECG interpretation, AI-assisted cardiac imaging, biomarker discovery, and electronic health record data analysis. Successful completion of the program results in a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI) while preparing graduates for careers in academic medicine, digital health, cardiovascular research, and healthcare innovation.
