In 1905, the University of Kansas established its medical school in Kansas City, Kansas, initially offering training programs for physicians and nurses. Over time, educational offerings expanded to include programs for anesthesiologists, surgeons, physical therapists, and other health specialties. In 1974, the Kansas Board of Regents created the KU School of Allied Health—later renamed the KU School of Health Professions—and the KU School of Nursing as fully independent schools separate from the medical school. In 1998, clinical operations on the campus transitioned to an independent hospital authority, now known as The University of Kansas Health System.
