Residency Program in General Practice Dental

• Applicant must be a graduate of an ADA (American Dental Association) accredited dental school.
• Must have a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), or equivalent dental degree (such as BDS) from a recognized dental school.
• Applicants must have successfully passed Part I and Part II of the National Dental Board Examination (NBDE) OR the Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE).
• Applicant must be eligible for a dental license in a U.S. state.
• Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.
• Candidates are selected based on academic achievements, personal essay, and Professional Evaluations (PEF).

The General Practice Dental Residency Program at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is a 1-year hospital-based dental residency program conducted at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. The program provides advanced postgraduate training in general dentistry and hospital dentistry, focusing on the management of medically complex patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Residents receive clinical experience in areas including comprehensive dental care, emergency dental care, oral surgery, oral pathology, pain control and anesthesiology, special patient care, temporomandibular disorders, practice management, and research. The program also includes rotations in anesthesia and emergency medicine, providing residents with exposure to medical emergencies and multidisciplinary patient care. The program accepts three residents annually and prepares graduates for advanced general dental practice and hospital-based dental care.
