Residency in Internal Medicine

The Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Minnesota is a comprehensive training program that provides residents with broad clinical experience in inpatient and outpatient adult medicine across three clinical sites. The program includes training in general internal medicine, critical care, emergency medicine, cardiology, nephrology, infectious diseases, endocrinology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, palliative care, geriatrics, and other subspecialties. Residents also receive structured training in point-of-care ultrasound, medical procedures, quality improvement, research, teaching, and professional development, with opportunities for elective and international rotations.

1. Apply through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application System).
2. Submit the completed application along with:
3. MSPE/Dean’s Letter
4. Minimum 3 letters of recommendation
5. Medical school transcript
6. USMLE/COMLEX scores
7. Recent photograph
3. Include Step 2 results if available; a passing Step 2 score is required before the applicant can be ranked.
4. International Medical Graduates should provide ECFMG certification and the required U.S. clinical experience documentation.
5. Applicants are considered for first-year positions through the NRMP (National Resident Matching Program).
6. Selected applicants participate in virtual interviews.
