The Preventive Medicine Residency Program at Wayne State University provides three years of training, consisting of an internship followed by two years of specialized preventive medicine and public health training. The program prepares physicians for careers in clinical preventive medicine, public health, healthcare management and clinical epidemiology, with a particular focus on urban and underserved populations. Residents gain experience through the Detroit and Wayne County Health Departments, Michigan Department of Corrections, community health centers and other public health settings. The curriculum also includes a tuition-free Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from Wayne State University, along with training in health disparities, community wellness, public health laws and regulations, population health monitoring and clinical preventive medicine.
