Post Graduate Certificate in Chemistry

1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (MLS, biology, chemistry or related science major).
2. Completion of required prerequisite courses (general biology, general chemistry labs, anatomy & physiology, mathematics, etc.) with grades of “C” or higher.
3. Minimum overall GPA (typically ≥ 2.0 and ≥ 2.0 in science courses).
4. Submission of three letters of recommendation.
5. International applicants may require TOEFL/IELTS scores if education was in a non-English speaking institution.

The Post-Baccalaureate Categorical Certificate – Chemistry at UTMB provides specialized preparation in clinical chemistry within the Medical Laboratory Sciences profession. The curriculum includes foundational clinical laboratory courses such as Clinical Chemistry I, Clinical Chemistry II, Urinalysis and Body Fluids, Management Skills, and a Clinical Preceptorship (practicum) in chemistry. Completion equips learners with advanced analytical, diagnostic, and technical skills specific to chemical analysis in clinical laboratory settings, and prepares them to sit for the ASCP Board of Certification exam in clinical chemistry, which is widely recognized in clinical laboratories.
