Overview
The Specialist in Blood Banking certificate is an advanced training program that prepares clinical laboratory professionals to perform and supervise specialized testing in blood banks and transfusion services. It blends online didactic instruction with clinical practicum experiences — often completed at the student’s place of employment or at approved clinical sites — covering blood bank laboratory operations, human blood group systems, advanced immunohematology, applied immunohematology practicums, and transfusion medicine principles. Upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the SBB(ASCP) certification exam administered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), a credential recognized for senior roles in clinical laboratory and blood bank leadership.
