The PhD in Clinical Psychology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is one of the few clinical psychology doctoral programs in the United States housed within an academic medical centre and a department of psychiatry. The program follows a scientist-practitioner training model that emphasises the integration of clinical practice and psychological science. Students receive extensive training in research methodology, psychological assessment, psychotherapy, psychopathology, ethics, and evidence-based mental health interventions. Clinical experiences include multiple year-long practica and a full-time predoctoral internship at leading healthcare institutions. The program offers specialised training opportunities in Clinical Adult Psychology, Clinical Child Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology, Behavioural Medicine/Health Psychology, and Forensic Psychology. Students work closely with faculty mentors on funded research projects and complete a master 's-level research project, dissertation, conference presentations, and scholarly publications. Northwestern's academic medical centre environment provides access to interdisciplinary collaborations with physicians, neuroscientists, epidemiologists, and healthcare researchers. Graduates are prepared for careers in academic medicine, university research, clinical practice, healthcare leadership, hospitals, and specialised psychological services. The program has maintained APA accreditation for more than five decades and is nationally recognised for balancing research excellence with advanced clinical training.
