Ph.D in Physiotherapy

Overview

• A Ph.D in Physiotherapy is a research-focused program. Candidates undertake original and independent research to contribute new knowledge to the field of physiotherapy. The research topic is typically chosen in collaboration with a supervisor or research advisor.
• While the emphasis is on research, some Ph.D programs may include coursework to ensure that candidates have a strong foundation in research methodologies, statistical analysis, and other relevant skills. The coursework component varies between programs.
• The core of a Ph.D program is the dissertation or thesis. This is an in-depth, original research project that makes a significant contribution to the field of medicine. The candidate is expected to defend their research findings in front of a panel of experts.
• Ph.D candidates in Physiotherapy may specialize in a particular area, such as musculoskeletal physiotherapy, neurological physiotherapy, pediatric physiotherapy, sports physiotherapy, or other specialized fields. The choice of specialization depends on the candidate's interests and the research focus of the program.

Eligibility

• Passed with 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a post graduate degree in Physiotherapy i.e., MPT degree awarded by this University or a Masters degree from other universities recognized as equivalent by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University are eligible for enrolment for Ph.D course in concerned discipline only.
• A relaxation of 5% marks (from 55% to 50%) or an equivalent relaxation of grade, shall be allowed for those belonging to SC / ST / OBC (non-creamy layer) / differently abled and other categories of candidates.
