Overview
Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) is a part of the inter-disciplinary Biotech Science Cluster at Faridabad in the National Capital Region. It is designed to be a dynamic and interactive organization with a mission to conduct innovative translational research across disciplines and professions to accelerate the development of concepts into products to improve human health. It is a recognized R&D institute of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi offering doctoral programs in biomedical science research.
The thematic areas of ongoing research are:
- Infection & Immunology
- Maternal & Child Health
- Non-Communicable Disease
- Multidisciplinary Clinical & Translational Research
Students selected for the program are required to undergo PhD Coursework followed by completion of research ending with submission of a thesis dissertation. This PhD program is governed by the rules of JNU.
Academic program:
- Selected students will have to undergo PhD course work for 2 semesters.
- Those having successfully completed the PhD course work requirement will be recommended to JNU for PhD registration.
- For the award of the doctoral degree, the candidate will have to complete all the requirements as per the JNU rules.
Note:
- Candidates having AYUSH-NET fellowship will conduct research work in the fields related to AYUSH only.
- A relaxation in marks/ grade during Master’s Degree for those belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently-abled or any other category will be applicable as per the UGC notification, 5th May 2016 or subsequent notification in effect at the time of interview.

Eligibility
- Candidate should have a Master’s degree in any branch of biomedical/ life sciences (including veterinary science, public health, pharmaceutical sciences), bioinformatics, chemistry, computer science or mathematics or a B Tech in Biotechnology from a recognized university with at least 55% marks or its equivalent (e.g. Grade B in the UGC 7-point scale).
- Candidate must have qualified in the Junior Research Fellow (JRF) examination of CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT (category-I only), NBHM or AYUSH-NET which provides fellowship for their PhD program.
- Candidates appearing in the final qualifying examination can also apply. However, they will be required to fulfill the above academic/ fellowship criteria at the time of joining the PhD program.

Admission Process:
- The THSTI announce the PhD Program admissions every year during November - December months, though news paper advertisement and notification on its website.
- Application should be submitted through online on THSTI website.
- Incomplete applications in any respect will be summarily rejected and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained.
- Application fee: Non-refundable application fee of Rs. 500 for General and OBC candidates, and Rs. 250 for SC/ST/Women/differently-abled candidates should be paid through online mode.
Selection procedure:
- Names of shortlisted candidates will be announced on our website.
- The candidates shortlisted will be called directly for the interview and the dates for the same will be announced on our website.
- Final selection will be made based on the applicant’s performance in the interview and the list of selected candidates will be published on the THSTI website.
Reservations: 27% seats for OBC (non-creamy layer), 15% seats for SC, 7.5% seats for ST and 4% seats for differently-abled person are reserved for candidates belonging to these categories. SC/ ST/ OBC candidates are required to submit certificates in respect of their claims from authorized officers as notified by the Government for the purpose from time to time. The differently-abled (with minimum 40% disability) candidates are required to submit a certificate from authorized Medical Doctors/ Hospitals indicating the extent of physical disability.
Fees: Admission fees, annual fees, registration fees or any other fees levied by JNU shall be payable by the student.
Hostel: Selected students will have the option of shared hostel accommodation in lieu of their HRA.
