Nuclear Radiology Fellowship

1. Must have completed or be completing an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited residency in Diagnostic Radiology before entering the fellowship.
2. Applicants from other eligible accredited residency programs may be considered for the two-year Nuclear Medicine fellowship.
3. Must have completed at least the required postgraduate clinical training for the applicable pathway.
4. International medical graduates must have a valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates certification, if applicable.
5. Applicants must satisfy UAB's applicable medical licensing, examination, and credentialing requirements.

The Nuclear Radiology Fellowship Program at UAB Heersink School of Medicine provides comprehensive training in traditional nuclear medicine and molecular imaging, including scintigraphic imaging, positron emission tomography, single-photon emission computed tomography, radionuclide therapy, nuclear cardiology, neuro-nuclear medicine, and oncologic imaging. Fellows participate in clinical interpretation, patient triage, diagnostic consultation, therapeutic procedures, multidisciplinary conferences, and research activities in molecular imaging and radiopharmaceutical development. Training is provided at UAB Hospital, Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Children’s Hospital of Alabama.

1. Submit the UAB Nuclear Radiology Fellowship application to the program coordinator.
2. Submit the required supporting documents, including curriculum vitae, personal statement, recommendation letters, and applicable Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates documentation.
3. Applications are reviewed by the Resident and Fellow Selection Committee.
4. Selected applicants are invited for an interview.
5. Following the interview, the selection committee recommends candidates to the Nuclear Medicine faculty for final selection.
6. The fellowship accepts fellows outside of the National Resident Matching Program. Once selected, the applicant receives a letter of intent followed by the UAB Graduate Medical Education contract.
