Nuclear Medicine Residency Program

1. Complete at least one year of clinical training in a residency accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or an equivalent recognized accrediting body.
2. Pass United States Medical Licensing Examination Steps 1 and 2 or the equivalent Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination requirements before starting the residency.
3. International medical graduates must have valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates certification, if applicable.
4. UAB currently cannot sponsor candidates who require a visa.

The Nuclear Medicine Residency Program provides comprehensive training in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging, including diagnostic imaging, positron emission tomography, nuclear cardiology, and radionuclide therapy. Residents gain supervised clinical experience in interpreting nuclear medicine studies, patient evaluation and consultation, therapeutic procedures, radiation safety, and nuclear medicine physics. The program also includes lectures, case conferences, journal clubs, and research opportunities.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service.
2. Submit the required application documents, including recommendation letters and applicable certification documents.
3. The Resident Selection Committee reviews applications.
4. Shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview.
5. Following interviews, the committee recommends candidates to the Nuclear Medicine faculty.
6. The faculty selects the residents.
7. UAB accepts Nuclear Medicine residents outside the national residency match.
8. Selected candidates receive a letter of intent followed by the residency contract.
