Overview

The MS General Surgery program at Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College & Hospital is a rigorous postgraduate training program designed to produce competent and ethical general surgeons. The course provides extensive exposure to elective and emergency surgical cases through outpatient services, inpatient wards, operation theatres, and intensive care units.

Affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) and approved by the National Medical Commission, the program follows a structured curriculum emphasizing hands-on surgical skills, peri-operative patient care, and evidence-based decision-making. Residents are trained in open and basic laparoscopic procedures, trauma surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, endocrine surgery, and surgical oncology fundamentals.

Academic activities include seminars, journal clubs, case presentations, audits, morbidity and mortality meetings, and compulsory dissertation work. On completion of the course, graduates are well-equipped for independent surgical practice, academic roles, or further super-specialty training.

Eligibility

  1. MBBS degree recognized by NMC
  2. Permanent or provisional MBBS registration with State Medical Council / NMC
  3. Completion of CRRI on or before the stipulated cutoff date
  4. Valid NEET-PG score with qualifying percentile as per category
  5. Must satisfy eligibility norms prescribed by KUHS, NMC, and the counselling authority
