The Medical Genetics Residency Program at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a two-year program consisting of 18 months of clinical rotations and six months of protected independent work or research. Residents receive comprehensive training in genetic evaluation, testing, diagnosis, counseling, and management of genetic disorders through inpatient consultation, outpatient genetics, cancer genetics, prenatal genetics, and clinical laboratory rotations in molecular genomics, cytogenetics, and biochemical genetics. The program also provides exposure to pediatric, adult, metabolic, neurogenetic, and other specialized areas of medical genetics, along with opportunities for clinical and laboratory-based research.
