Overview

  • The Department of Psychiatry at AIIMS Rajkot was established in November 2021. It currently provides OPD-based services for a range of psychiatric illnesses, including substance use disorders. From May 31, an Addiction Treatment Clinic has separately become operational to provide dedicated treatment for substance use disorders. The vision of the department is to provide state-of-the-art mental health care, promote mental wellbeing, and to evolve as a centre of excellence in clinical care, training, and research.
  • As a 3-year full-time MD Psychiatry programme, students will receive training both in theory and practice: diagnosing psychiatric disorders, managing treatments (medication, psychotherapy), working in OPD and possibly inpatient settings, and addiction disorders. Since AIIMS Rajkot is a relatively new AIIMS, some advanced facilities (inpatient care, specialized units) may be under development, so exposure might be more in outpatient and addiction special clinics initially. The programme emphasizes research, case discussions, academic learning, and practical exposure under experienced faculty.
