The MD Microbiology program at Believers Church Medical College & Hospital (BCMCH), Thiruvalla, is conducted in accordance with the regulations of the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS). The department provides structured training in diagnostic microbiology and laboratory medicine essential for patient care and public health.

Residents gain hands-on experience in bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, immunology, and serology laboratories, along with exposure to infection control practices and hospital epidemiology within the attached 700+ bedded multi-specialty teaching hospital. The program emphasizes accurate diagnosis, laboratory quality assurance, biosafety, and antimicrobial resistance surveillance.
  3. Academic activities include seminars, journal clubs, case discussions, laboratory audits, and interdisciplinary meetings. Postgraduate students are required to undertake research and submit a dissertation as mandated by KUHS. On completion, graduates are well prepared for careers in diagnostic laboratories, academic institutions, research organizations, and public health services.

Eligibility

  1. MBBS degree from an NMC-recognized institution
  2. Completion of Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI)
  3. Qualified NEET-PG examination
  4. Permanent medical registration at the time of admission
  5. Eligibility as per KUHS and Government of Kerala PG Medical Admission Rules
