Overview
- AIMS Bellur houses a full-fledged Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, committed to imparting medico-legal education, research, and forensic services.
- The MD Forensic Medicine program at AIMS is designed to equip medical graduates with expert knowledge and practical skills in medico-legal medicine: including autopsy techniques, forensic pathology, toxicology (poisoning, drug overdose), medico-legal documentation, legal procedures, crime-related forensic investigations, and liaising with judicial and law-enforcement authorities. The department emphasizes ethical practice, medico-legal reporting, and service to society, and aims to produce competent professionals adept at forensic and medico-legal responsibilities.
- Students benefit from AIMS’s large teaching hospital infrastructure (with multi-specialty and super-specialty departments), which ensures exposure to a variety of clinical and forensic cases — important for training in autopsies, medicolegal cases (MLCs), toxicological analysis, and hospital-based forensic work.
- On-campus hostel accommodation for PG students ensures a stable living environment for residents coming from different parts of India. Campus facilities include modern labs, pathology/forensic labs, research infrastructure, and academic resources that support training, research, and practical exposure.
- Given the nature of the specialty, graduates with MD Forensic Medicine from AIMS can work in hospital forensic departments, government medico-legal institutions, forensic laboratories, police-judicial collaborations, academic teaching, research, or medico-legal consultancy.
