Overview
- The Department of Community Medicine at AIMS Bellur offers MD Community Medicine, a postgraduate program initiated in 1996. The department’s stated vision is to foster excellence in public health education, leadership and community-oriented medical practice — combining teaching, research and community service to meet societal health needs.
- Through MD Community Medicine, students are trained in preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative health care — with emphasis on public health, epidemiology, maternal and child health, nutrition, health education, disease prevention, family welfare, and implementation of national and community health programs.
- Given AIMS Bellur’s large affiliated teaching hospital (with over 1,120 beds) and its community outreach programs, the program offers exposure not only to hospital-based care but also to community health services, outreach, public health initiatives and research.
- Hostel accommodation and campus infrastructure support PG students (including those in Community Medicine) — which is especially helpful for students from different states.
- Overall, MD Community Medicine at AIMS Bellur aims to produce doctors who are well-versed in public health, community health management, preventive medicine, epidemiology, and public health research — enabling them to serve at community, regional, or national public health levels, or engage in academic / policy/research roles.
