Overview

1. The MD Anaesthesiology program at Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College & Hospital is a comprehensive postgraduate medical course aimed at producing skilled anaesthesiologists capable of handling peri-operative care, critical care, and emergency medical situations. The department plays a vital role in surgical, obstetric, orthopedic, and emergency services within the teaching hospital.

Affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) and approved by the National Medical Commission, the course follows a structured academic and clinical curriculum emphasizing patient safety, evidence-based practice, and multidisciplinary coordination. Residents receive hands-on training in general anaesthesia, regional blocks, spinal and epidural techniques, paediatric anaesthesia, obstetric anaesthesia, trauma care, and ICU management.
3. The program also focuses on pain medicine, ventilator management, peri-operative monitoring, and resuscitation protocols. Academic activities include seminars, case discussions, journal clubs, audits, and mandatory research leading to a dissertation. On successful completion, graduates are well-prepared for independent specialist practice, critical care roles, or further super-specialty training.

Eligibility

1. MBBS degree recognized by NMC
2. Permanent or provisional MBBS registration with State Medical Council / NMC
3. Completion of CRRI (internship) on or before the cutoff date
4. Valid NEET-PG score with qualifying percentile as per category
5. Must satisfy eligibility norms prescribed by KUHS, NMC, and counselling authority
