The Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) at UTMB provides a foundational professional education for students seeking initial preparation as occupational therapists. The curriculum integrates evidence-based didactic coursework with hands-on clinical fieldwork experiences in diverse practice settings. Students develop skills in evaluating, implementing, and adapting therapeutic interventions to support individuals’ engagement in meaningful daily activities and promote functional independence. Coursework spans areas such as human development, neuroscience, assessment methods, therapeutic techniques, and professional issues in occupational therapy. Supervised fieldwork placements reinforce learning and provide real-world practice under the mentorship of experienced clinicians. Graduates are prepared to pursue state licensure and national certification (NBCOT) and enter the occupational therapy profession as competent practitioners.
