The Master of Science in Respiratory Therapy (MSRT) at UTMB offers two distinct pathways tailored to different career stages: an entry-level track that trains individuals without respiratory therapy experience to become competent respiratory therapists, and a degree advancement track designed for licensed RRTs aiming to expand their qualifications for leadership, education, or research roles. The entry-level curriculum includes foundational respiratory care science, adult and neonatal critical care, cardiopulmonary diagnostics, pulmonary rehabilitation, and clinical internships, culminating in a capstone project. The degree advancement track provides online coursework focused on evidence-based practice, advanced mechanical ventilation, leadership domains, and an optional research thesis or capstone project. Graduates of the program are prepared for advanced respiratory care roles, academic positions, clinical leadership, and contribution to healthcare innovation.
