Psychiatry Nursing

Overview

M.Sc Nursing (Psychiatric Nursing) at BRAMC is a two-year postgraduate programme dedicated to preparing nurses to specialize in mental health and psychiatric care. The program is designed to develop advanced competencies in assessing, managing, and caring for individuals with mental health disorders — both in hospital and community settings.

Students in this program receive both theoretical instruction (on psychiatric nursing principles, mental health assessments, psychiatric disorders, therapeutic nursing care, mental health promotion, community mental health, etc.) and extensive clinical exposure. The institute’s associated teaching hospital and its network (including psychiatric and neurology departments, mental-health / rehabilitation centres) provide practical training.

The small batch size (intake limited to 5 students per year) ensures individualized attention, better mentor-student interaction and focused learning environment.

On completion, graduates are qualified to work as mental health / psychiatric nurses, clinical specialists for psychiatric care, counsellors (in hospital or community settings), educators, researchers or contribute to mental-health programs and initiatives — thus playing a crucial role in addressing the rising need for mental health care professionals.
