Overview

    Aim of the postgraduate programme in nursing is to prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Practitioners, Consultants, Educators, Researchers and Administrators in a wide variety of professional settings.

    On completion of the 2 year MSc Nursing programme, the graduates will be able to:-

    • Apply the concepts, theories and principles of nursing science.
    • Demonstrate competencies in nursing practice.
    • Practice as Clinical Nurse Specialist.
    • Establish collaborative relationship with the members of other disciplines
    • Assume leadership in various care settings.
    • Participate in health planning, implementation and evaluation at different levels of health care system.
    • Function as effective nurse educators and nurse managers.
    • Conduct independent nursing research and utilize the research findings in nursing practice and education.
    • Critically evaluate various educational programmes in nursing.
    • Demonstrate interest and positive attitude in continuing education for personal and professional growth.
    • Demonstrate advanced skills and competence in the nursing management of patients with various medical and surgical conditions.
    • Incorporate evidence based nursing practice and identify the areas of research in the field of medical and surgical nursing.
    • Describe recent advancements in the field of medical and surgical nursing.
    • Explain the legal and ethical issues in caring patients with various medical and surgical conditions
    • Function as medical surgical nurse specialists and practitioners.

Eligibility

    • Nationality: Candidates must be Citizens of India / children or dependents of Non Resident Indians.
    • Academic Candidates should have passed the regular Degree course in Nursing (BSc Nursing / Post Basic BSc Nursing) with 55% aggregate marks irom an institution recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (ING).
    • Candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from Universities other than from the Government Universities in the State of Kerala should produce Eligibility / Equivalence Certificate for the qualifying examination from Kerala University of Health Sciences.
    • Every candidate before admission to the course shall submit to the Principal of the Institution a Certificate of Medical Fitness from an authorized Medical Officer certifying that the candidate is fit to undergo the course.
    • Rounding off of the percentage of marks to the nearest whole number is not permitted.
    • Any further norms of eligibility that may be prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council / Kerala Nurses & Midwives Council / KUHS shall also apply. 10.3. Professional Registration: Candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife (RNRM) with the Kerala Nurses & Midwives Council. 10.4 Employment Experience.
    • As on the date of joining for the course, the candidate should have minimum one year of experience after Basic BSc Nursing OR minimum one year of experience prior or after regular Post Basic BSc Nursing, in any hospital having minimum bed strength of 100 or in a School / College of Nursing with Community Health Program.
    • One year compulsory nursing service / internship after successful completion of four year BSc Nursing can be considered as experience.
    • Experience acquired after registration with the nursing council only will be counted.
