The minimum education requirements shall be the passing of B.Sc Nursing / B.Sc. Hons. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc Nursing with minimum of 55% aggregate marks and the studied institution should be recognized by INC, one year prior teaching experience after issue of provisional certificate and from the date of registration in any of the state council in the country and incase of non- tamilnadu candidates they have to produce either the provisional registration or the receipt of the acknowledgement of the provisional registration of the tamilnadu nurses and midwives council Chennai. For students after Management Quota, Candidate should undertake the common Entrance Test.

Psychiatric mental health nursing is a specialized area of nursing practice uses theories human behaviour as its scientific framework and requires the purposeful use of self as its art of expression. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social well being. Its affects how we think, feel and act. Its also helps to determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. Mental health is important at every stages of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. We prepare the psychiatric nurses to make rapid comprehensive assessment, use effective problem solving skills in making complex clinical decision, act autonomously as well as collaboratively with other professional, be sensitive to issues such as ethical dilemmas, cultural diversity and access to mental health care for underserved population. Mental health nursing department has one professor and one associate professor.
